Where does a single mother go to when she has been systemically abused by her partner (whether physically or mentally)? Maybe a relative's home. Maybe a church. 

Or, she could be helped in our region by the House of Ruth Maryland, one of the outstanding charity partners for The Pink Event^® 2016 (March 6, 2016 at the BWI Airport Marriott in Linthicum). 

This women's shelter not only specializes in the dynamics of intimate partner violence but it helps thousands of battered women and their children find the safety and security to start a new chapter in their lives. 

The Pink Event® 2016 Selects Charity Partners

Living up to its commitment to support women’s issue, Diamond Event Services, LLC, announced this week it will work with breast cancer charity For 3 Sisters, Inc., and domestic violence organization House of Ruth Maryland, Inc., as official charity partners for The Pink Event^® 2016.

 

Both charities will be present at the women-focused expo that will be held on March 6, 2016 at the BWI Airport Marriott in Linthicum. The nonprofits will benefit from 20 percent of ticket sales, net proceeds from the event’s charity raffles, and other select proceeds.

What About the Children?

In light of some recent events, there is an area that is not focused on. Recently, Adrian Peterson, a Vikings NFL player tragically lost his son to violence. The mother's boyfriend beat the two year old to death. Prior to this incident, the mother reported domestic violence over a period of time... years. 

It is common to find that when communities are being educated on significant issues recognized nationally in October that normally adults are targeted. It is important for adults to be targeted as breast cancer and domestic violence directly effects them. Who else does this directly effect?

Domestic Violence Attempt: Women Puts Survival Skills to the Test



  Ladies, tuning into Survival Alaska, a TV show on National Geographic, just might save your life. Recently a 25 year old woman was found alive in the Canadian woods after being reported missing for 12 days. Stephanie Beaverbones was savagely attacked by a man she recently met after being separated when the car she was in with her group of friends broke down. The group of friends split up leaving Stephanie behind with Kevin Gladue 36, a man she just met that day. Gladue allegedly sexually assaulted Stephanie leaving her with a broken jaw and concussion, but Stephanie used her quick wits to escape her attacker and ran into the nearby woods.

  After becoming disoriented, Stephanie survived in the Canadian wilderness for 12 days living off of berries and river water. She was later found by an oil worker and was reunited with her family. According to the NY Daily News, Gladue was charged with "aggravated assault, sexual assault and obstructing a peace officer in connection to the attack."

Sometimes it is overlooked, but October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month (signified by purple ribbons). This is an issue that unfortunately affects far too many women, children and families in the United States. But more awareness and information is having an impact and we love that more people are going Pink and Purple this month. So let's spy something purple!

House of Ruth Maryland Volunteers Will Talk about Efforts at The Pink Event™

The Pink Event™ 2012 is excited to announce that Adrian Fauntleroy and Kristine Olaes from the House of Ruth Maryland will be at the one-day women's expo (March 3, Holiday Inn--Laurel West) to discuss the domestic violence shelter's efforts.

House of Ruth Maryland is one of two charities that will equally receive 65 percent of ticket sale proceeds from the expo, which features a plethora of niche vendors, inspirational speakers and fun door prizes.

Don’t Forget About Women’s Issues after October

Saturday starts two important awareness months: domestic violence and breast cancer. We need to pay special attention to these issues because they impact far too many women (and men) we know and love.

 

 

While researchers have made great strides in providing cutting-edge treatments, the overall number of breast cancer diagnoses in the past 30 years has more than doubled from 641,000 to 1.64 million annually, according to a new global study.

Meanwhile, an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year.   These numbers aren’t going to go away anytime soon without communities (and women) coming together to highlight the problems and solutions.

We are in the process of selecting our benefiting charities for our 2012 event! For our 2nd year we decided to involve our VIPs! Yep, you guessed it our Very Important Participants, supporters like you!

The Pink Event is a women-focused event (after all that is what the PINK in The Pink Event stands for, WOMEN). Therefore,
our event will benefit 2 charities that often support women (we like to call them women-focused charities).
