A new study finds more of a connection between the use of birth control pills with high-dose estrogen and an increased risk for breast cancer.
According to a data published in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, women who used high-dose pills in the past year had a higher risk for
developing breast cancer compared with women who don't use oral contraceptives.
Elisabeth Beaber, one of the study authors, tempered the results, saying that breast cancer is rare among young women. "[A]nd there are numerous established health benefits associated with oral contraceptive use that must be considered," Beaber said in a statement.
Birth control pills containing low-dose estrogen did not increase breast cancer risk, the study said.
