But more awareness and information is having an impact and we love that more people are going Pink and Purple this month. So let's spy something purple!

In fact, we thought it would be fun to show you how "pinkified" the nation gets to support awareness and research for ending breast cancer.

The Pink Event™ Vendor Spotlight: The Carlton Smith Music Group

It's not a party unless you have two turntables and a microphone! Thank goodness The Pink Event™ could turn to The Carlton Smith Music Group to bring that and more to its March event and more.

What started as a small DJ business in New York City, Carlton Smith Music Group has moved and expanded to covering events large and small in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. We love watching company president, founder and DJ extraordinaire Michael C. Smith use new technology and old-school mixing techniques to keep the music flowing. Don't try to handle DJ duties on your own. Call Mike and learn about affordable options for your next event.

The Pink Event™ Vendor Spotlight: Norwood Boutique

We here at The Pink Event™ love adornments, especially those for women of grace! So we were excited to peruse in person the accessories and apparel that is available from Norwood Boutique

Catering to African American culture, the boutique sells handmade jewelry, multi-fold designer purses, wraps, sundresses, scarves and other accessories. These items not only are incredibly beautiful, they also edify ladies' outward appearance!

The Pink Event™ Vendor Spotlight: Scentsy

Independent consultant Doretha "ReCe" Joyner says she was selling another product when she learned about the wonders of Scentsy candles.

"You could have never told me I would start another Direct Sell Business. But I could not help it! I was hook[ed] on the concept of NO FIRE! It was safe! Cute, and smelled very good."

We heartily agree! With no flame, smoke or soot, Scentsy wickless candle systems let you have all the enjoyment of candle fragrances without the fire or danger. And with new summer flavors like lovely Lonicera, juicy Simply Strawberry, and citrusy Tingelo, there's no limit to what mood or atmosphere you want to evoke.

The Pink Event™ Vendor Spotlight: Access E-File

They're smiling right now, but these ladies could be pulling out their hair soon over that tricky time of year that hits U.S. workers and small businesses: Filing their taxes in time for the April 17 deadline (a D.C. holiday makes it later this year).

Luckily, there are smart number crunchers available who take that hassle and headache off our hands, and Access E-File is one of them. This firm, devoted to small business professionals, covers tax planning, tax preparation and does free electronic filing (the mode that state and federal government agencies are pushing more Americans to use). Don't wait until the last minute and be in one of those news stories about crowded postal offices. Call Access E-File at 301-622-5400, and get your paperwork sorted out today.

The Pink Event™ Vendor Spotlight: Jaha Hair Studio

Jaha Hair Studio doesn't just talk the talk when it comes to natural and nurturing hair products (primarily for the African-American community). The stylists walked the walk by offering The Pink Event2012 attendees a chance to receive twists, locs and other services. Based in Silver Spring, Jaha Hair Studio prides itself on natural hair-care services for men, women and children.

In fact, the studio set up the Jaha Natural Hair Academy to teach the techniques needed to keep natural hair clean and styled on a daily basis. "The workshops do not eliminate the need for professional care on a regular basis," Jaha's website says, "but it empowers customers to take care of their hair in its natural state and maintain its beauty between visits to the salon.

At the Pink Event, Jaha Hair Studio also featured boutique fashion jewelry and accessories that were perfect for any lady looking to style up her image. Learn more about this Pink Event 2012 vendor here.

Prince George's County Department of Social Services, Foster Care & Adoption Talks with The Pink Event™

One thing we're excited about with our elite selection of niche vendors participating in The Pink Event 2012 is that they're not all the same—or even selling products or services. This is the case with the Prince George's County Department of Social Services, Foster Care and Adoption. The agency instead is hoping to bring some much-needed attention to the county's need for foster and adoptive parents.

We sat down with agency representative Lisa Robertson to talk about what Prince George’s County hopes to achieve with Pink Event attendees:

Ladies, Can We Talk about the Shopping?!

If you're like most of us gals in the Washington/Baltimore area, you work hard and enjoy those blessed (but sparse) times when you can indulge and pamper yourself. And if shopping amongst unique and fun products and services tailored to women is your forte, we have the perfect event for you!

The Pink Event 2012 promises to deliver a high-caliber lineup of vendors who know what it means to treat a lady right. So let's examine what you'll see at the expo on March 3 (11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn-Laurel West):

The volunteers will be on hand at The Pink Event—which will be held on March 3, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn-Laurel West—to talk about the organization’s efforts in providing education, screening, treatments and support services to women, men and families with breast cancer. Tiffany Moody Brings Makeovers to The Pink Event™ 2012

Makeup artist Tiffany Moody loves helping women look their best—and she’ll help ladies understand how to achieve this during a mini-inspirational session at The Pink Event (March 3), a one-day, women-focused expo held at the Holiday Inn in Laurel, Md.

Moody—a makeup artist for The Pearl Spa in Fulton, Md.—is one of six local experts speaking at The Pink Event’s full line-up of women-focused sessions, covering topics from image makeovers to understanding domestic violence.

One makeup myth Moody says she’s ready to challenge is the rule that certain skin tones have limited color palettes. “I think a lot of women are afraid of colors. But that’s mainly because they don’t know how to apply their makeup tools,” says Moody, who applies makeup to celebrity clients like Radio One owner Cathy Hughes.

Charity Spotlight: Anne Arundel County Firefighters Donate $10,000 to Susan G. Komen Foundation

We here at the Pink Event love firefighters! And we highlighted back in October that Anne Arundel County firefighters were stepping up their heroism by wearing specially designed T-shirts promoting breast cancer awareness while on duty.

Late Wednesday morning, those firefighters from local 1563 made a full circle by donating $10,000 from shirt sales and other efforts to the Susan G. Komen Foundation (and its Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®), as noted by WMAR ABC-2.

Charity Spotlight: The House of Ruth Maryland Helps Woman Make Revolution

It's always great when a charity can share success stories of domestic violence survivors who turned their life around thanks to the support network set up to aid them and their families. It's even better when a former victim is featured on ABC's The Revolution, as was the case for the House of Ruth Maryland.

The Baltimore-based leading domestic violence nonprofit, an official charity for The Pink Event 2012, helped Veronica Baylor-Ginyard (a single mother of eight) escape domestic abuse. Veronica talked with the The Revolution co-host Ty Pennington about her traumatic experience of being "to hell and back."

In The News: Breast Cancer's Continued Toll on Young Survivors

While amazing technologies and innovation has helped women have a higher survival rate when battling breast cancer, a recent ABC News profile highlights an unfortunate side effect--young women experiencing major quality of life challenges.

Undoubtedly, these women would likely choose the risk of psychological stress, weight gain, drops in physical activity and even reproductive issues over a certain death. But as ABC News points to a new study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, this pushes many young survivors into lower quality of life with mental and health problems.

Breast Cancer Survivor to Speak at The Pink Event® 2012

It’s only been a little more than a year since her diagnosis, but Yolanda Woodlee says her life is forever changed after battling Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) breast cancer. Still, her upbeat attitude and persistent hope are two things she hopes attendees will take away when Woodlee talks about her experience at The Pink Event on March 3, 2012.

“All of our experiences with breast cancer are so different but the key is to stay on top of it,” says Woodlee, a former Washington Post political reporter who lives in Silver Spring. “I kept telling myself, okay the breast cancer caught up with me. But it’s early and it didn’t really get me yet.”
