Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Volunteers on Hand at The Pink Event 2012™

The Pink Event 2012™ is excited to announce that the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® volunteers Belinda Prattis and Emily Mariner will be at the women's expo to talk about the importance of breast cancer awareness.

The volunteers will be on hand at The Pink Event—which will be held on March 3, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn-Laurel West—to talk about the organization’s efforts in providing education, screening, treatments and support services to women, men and families with breast cancer. Komen Maryland is one of two charities that will equally receive 65 percent of ticket sales from The Pink Event.

"The Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was honored when asked by The Pink Event to be a charity partner," says Robin Prothro, Executive Director of Komen Maryland, headquartered in Towson. "Participating in this event allows us to reach additional women to encourage them to get screened and be cognizant of their breast health."

During 2011, Komen Maryland granted out nearly $2.5 million to 29 programs across the state.  A list of the grant partners, their locations and program overviews can be found here.  Komen Maryland also boasts the accomplishments their past grant programs have had.  To see the impact made in the community by the grants funded during 2010, please click here.  On a local level, the controversy surrounding Komen for the Cure’s granting criteria did not impact Komen Maryland since Planned Parenthood of Maryland has never applied for grant funding.
