Breast Cancer Awareness Month is wrapping up but we would be remiss if we didn't give a shout-out to the Pink Fireman Marshall Moneymaker of For 3 Sisters. 

Marshall, along with For 3 Sisters board member and breast cancer survivor Kellee Southern, were on WJLA Good Morning Washington to discuss how the organization is improving the lives of those affected by breast cancer. Check out the story here. 

Congratulations to The Pink Event Founder Tamika Josephs-Smith! Supporter of the Year for Breast Cancer Organization

She is the inspiration behind The Pink Event and has made breast cancer awareness a cornerstone of the event's charitable efforts. So it comes as no surprise that Tamika Josephs-Smith was named Supporter of the Year for her work with breast cancer charity For 3 Sisters. 

"It's an honor to be recognized by this selfless organization," Tamika says. "This group goes beyond education to personally helping women, and men, who are affected by breast cancer. That's why we have loved our partnership with For 3 Sisters."

When Local Football Players Touchdown on What's Right with America

Lately, football in the high schools and professional field has become so controversial. And we know everyone has varying opinions but I think we can all agree that these high school footballers are THE BEST!!

Members of Henry County's Union Grove High School football team paid tribute to the brace women at their school who have fought or are currently fighting breast cancer. According to FOX5DC, the Union Grove Wolverines in Georgia surprised teachers and staff members with pink roses.

See What This NFL Player Did to Combat Breast Cancer

If you watch NFL football, you'll notice the League goes to great lengths to support October as Breast Cancer Awareness month.

But one player with the Pittsburgh Steelers took it a step further. According to The Root, DeAngelo Williams recently lost his mother to breast cancer. To honor his mother, Williams is paying for 53 mammograms through his charity, the DeAngelo Williams Foundation.

The Pink Event® 2016 Selects Charity Partners

Living up to its commitment to support women’s issue, Diamond Event Services, LLC, announced this week it will work with breast cancer charity For 3 Sisters, Inc., and domestic violence organization House of Ruth Maryland, Inc., as official charity partners for The Pink Event^® 2016.

 

Both charities will be present at the women-focused expo that will be held on March 6, 2016 at the BWI Airport Marriott in Linthicum. The nonprofits will benefit from 20 percent of ticket sales, net proceeds from the event’s charity raffles, and other select proceeds.

The Power of Kindness! How Community Helped Homeless Mom of 3 Battling Breast Cancer

Okay just a warning, but this might make you tear up. We here at The Pink Event^® are in love with the Detroit community that responded after Fox 2 News ran a tragic story about Simone Hearn--who at the time was homeless, had three children, and was dealing with stage 3 breast cancer. Two weeks after Hearn's story aired, Fox 2 News received so much support that they were able to find Hearn and her children an affordable place to live. 

See the Screening Method That's Catching Breast Cancer More than Mammographies

So we really enjoyed this recent piece in The Huffington Post about a new type of breast cancer screening called digital breast tomosynthesis. This is a 3-D screening method that a new medical study says is better at detecting breast cancer tumors than mammographies and is also less painful. Additionally, women are exposed to less radiation in the screening process.

We saw this on Facebook the other day and had to give it a quick shout out! 

It's totally legitimate and totally awesome. Cleaning for a Reason is a Texas-based nonprofit that was started by the Debbie Sardone, owner of Buckets & Bows Maid Service.

Sardone got a call several years ago from a prospective client who couldn't afford house cleaning services because she was undergoing cancer treatment. 

The woman hung up before Sardone could act and she vowed no other women dealing with cancer treatments would be denied a clean home. It's one more great resource for women doing their best in the midst of breast cancer and other cancers.

New Study Finds Link between High-Dose Estrogen Birth Control & Breast Cancer Risk

A new study finds more of a connection between the use of birth control pills with high-dose estrogen and an increased risk for breast cancer.

We're closing out March and the last few weeks of National Women's History month. And The Pink Event staff is pretty sure the women in this video will always be remembered by their friend who has breast cancer. 

According to the video above, "In February 2014, one of Gerdi McKenna's friends wrote an email requesting a photoshoot for all her friends as [Gerdi] was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months before...and this is what happened."

For the second consecutive year, Diamond Event Services, LLC, will partner with the Tigerlily Foundation, naming the nonprofit group its official charity partner for The Pink Event^® 2014. The annual women-focused expo—which will grace the atrium and ballrooms of the DoubleTree by Hilton in Columbia, Md., on March 9, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.— partners with a charity each year to educate attendees about the dangers of breast cancer and promote awareness.

Keep Pink Awareness Going After Tomorrow!

Tomorrow marks Halloween and the end of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There have been some interesting efforts to educate women about breast cancer and prevention methods, from a Tweeting bra to the "Pink Out" of The White House. 
Ultimately, a successful awareness month keeps women alert and engaged all year long. Women who conduct monthly breast exams, limit alcohol consumption, up their fruits and veggie intake, exercise regularly and keep their weight within "normal" limits are on a good path.

Shock: Angelina Jolie Underwent Double Mastectomy to Prevent Breast and Ovarian Cancer

If you didn't see this story, actress Angelina Jolie revealed today in an op-ed to The New York Times that she had a double mastectomy to prevent the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. 

Citing a "faulty" gene (BRCA1) that increases her risk of having the cancers, Jolie said her doctors informed her that she had an 87% risk for breast cancer and 50% risk for ovarian cancer. 

"Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much as I could," Jolie writes in the Times. The Pink Event commends Jolie and other women who make a very personal decision to be proactive in preventing breast cancer. 

And don't forget that this week is National Women's Health Week. It's a time for you to get the check-ups necessary so that your total wellness is in tip-top shape.
