Vanessa Elam to Teach Beauty Tips at The Pink Event® 2012

Lifestyle Coach and Image Consultant Vanessa Elam will lend her expertise to help women look 10 years younger in 10 minutes as part of mini-inspirational sessions at the upcoming 2012 Pink Event®.

“Women are surprised that there are lots of little things, from beauty regimen to attitude and gratitude adjustments, that can make them look years younger,” says Elam, who is the Owner of Olney, Md.-based, boutique image consultancy firm ImagiNess Style.

The self-described “ImagiNeesta” says she’ll cover quick tips that help women accentuate their outer features while also encouraging them to highlight their inner beauty. Elam’s panel at The Pink Event—a women-focused expo held March 3 at the Holiday Inn in Laurel, Md.—is part of a full line-up of local experts who will speak about ways to empower women.

In the News: Sexual Assault Victim Takes a Brave Stand

Domestic violence comes unfortunately in many forms, affecting men and women of all ages, demographics and socioeconomic statuses. Among the uglier incidences are sexual assaults like rape. They're often unreported crimes that rob the victims of their sense of worth and emotional balance.

So it's pretty amazing to see how one sexual assault victim courageously identified herself in public (going against the understandable norm of being anonymous) and told her assailant she was the victor. Here's how the UK Daily Mail reported it today:

Firefighters Going Pink!

They get up and go out at all hours of the day to help the public--dealing with anything from minor injuries in car accidents to major fires and boat rescues. And Anne Arundel County firefighters in Maryland have stepped up their heroic efforts this October by promoting breast cancer awareness month.

Many professional firefighters in the county have bought these specially designed shirts to wear on duty, with proceeds of the shirt sales going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Check out local firefighter Justin Bowling (in Shady Side) showing that he's not afraid to embrace his inner pink:

Don’t Forget About Women’s Issues after October

Saturday starts two important awareness months: domestic violence and breast cancer. We need to pay special attention to these issues because they impact far too many women (and men) we know and love.

While researchers have made great strides in providing cutting-edge treatments, the overall number of breast cancer diagnoses in the past 30 years has more than doubled from 641,000 to 1.64 million annually, according to a new global study.

Meanwhile, an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year.   These numbers aren’t going to go away anytime soon without communities (and women) coming together to highlight the problems and solutions.
