Firefighters Going Pink!

They get up and go out at all hours of the day to help the public--dealing with anything from minor injuries in car accidents to major fires and boat rescues. And Anne Arundel County firefighters in Maryland have stepped up their heroic efforts this October by promoting breast cancer awareness month.

Many professional firefighters in the county have bought these specially designed shirts to wear on duty, with proceeds of the shirt sales going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Check out local firefighter Justin Bowling (in Shady Side) showing that he's not afraid to embrace his inner pink:

These men and women not only put out fires and save lives, they also show how anyone can be involved in raising awareness of a disease that kills more than 39,000 U.S. women each year. The Pink Event thanks the department for sharing its story and photos with us.
